Freezing Temperatures

Well we woke on Sunday morning to be greeted by between 1 and 2 feet of snow. Awesome! Just wait it gets better. I worked into work and my boss, Shane, tells me he has a surprise for me. I was a little bit worried actually. He asked me if I could work till around 9.00pm that night. I was like “Goddamn it, No” in my head but I said yes anyway. Then he tells me I don’t have to start till 12pm. My eyes lit up. Powder day! First tracks! Does it get better?
So me and Alex (another dude that was also working like with me) spent the morning riding in the deep deep powder. It was up to my hips and it was glorious! We went did a few trees runs and mainly just stayed on the black runs. OMG! It was amazing! I love powder.
Come 12pm, I was aching all over. Riding in pow gives you a real workout. And my back hurt too because I had a big fall where I tumbled and kind of twisted my back in a way it’s not supposed to be twisted. It’s getting heaps better now, I can hardly feel it. I thought I hurt it bad. :-|
Speaking of powder today (18 Jan) is absolutely unreal. It probably snowed about a foot last night and I think I’ve counted less than 30 or 40 people here. So the powder is going to last all day! I’ve already had 2 runs on the clock. I can’t believe I’m getting paid for this shit! Hahaha. The last run I had was through the trees through Sunrise and Schatzi. Unbelievable!!!!
Anyway, back to the story, lol. I worked chair 1 which is how everyone gets up the mountain. The mountain was putting on a dinner for some Christian group. There was probably about 100 of them total. All I had to do was help them on the chair to get up and sit around for a couple of hours and then help them off the lift at the end. Easy! They provided dinner as well. Lasagne! Hmmm……it was nice!
These Christians were pretty funny. They were a young group. Probably all between 15 and 35. They did silent karaoke which is where someone is listening to an iPod and has to sing but no one else can hear the music just the person singing. It was pretty funny. They were all in hysterics. Then suddenly someone stood up and started praying so they all shut up and joined him. It was full on. They looked like they were having a real good time though.
That night it was so unbelievably cold. I had 5 layers on top and was still cold. I had thermals, a t-shirt and 3 jackets. It was hovering around 0°F which is about -17°C. I tried to take some pics to show how cold it was but you can’t really tell. The steam from my breath looked like I was constantly smoking. Haha.
After that huge day, I got a lift home from Shane and went straight to sleep. I got home about 10.30pm. Crazy day!

I just had my lunch break today and did some more tree runs. It is so much fun. I wish I could video tape myself going through them. I just can’t describe it. I didn’t bring my camera today……I so should’ve! Hopefully I’ll get out here tomorrow and take some pics through the trees. If not then I will hopefully get some Friday when Tim, Cam and I all have a day off. Visiability is starting to get a bit bad but this morning it was pristine! It was snowing but everything was clear as day. Hopefully the snow doesn’t stop at all today! Fingers crossed. :-)
