Started Work
Hi again,
Everything is good over here. Every single day we have been here has been a sunny one, which is good, but we are in need of a bit of snow. Can’t wait for a real big dump. Today will be my first day riding at Mammoth. We have just been so busy and we still have a heap off stuff to do today and tomorrow so I think it’ll be half a day.
Well it’s Friday today and I have a day off. I worked full days yesterday and the day before. I get Fridays and Saturdays off which is pretty good. My job is really cruisy, I mean really really cruisy. The lift that I operate is dead most of the time. Don’t really get many people coming through.
June Mountain is an awesome place due to the fact that there aren’t many people there. You can basically due whatever you want. No one seems to care. It’s also good because there aren’t many skiers around. It’s like a huge board park with kickers and rails everywhere. Can’t wait till we start getting ski breaks while working. You not supposed to while in the probationary period, which is meant to be 2 weeks, but they have cut that down to around 3 or 4 days now.
That means when there are 3 people on a lift, we just keep rotating and having runs down.
The hours I work are 8.30am to 4.30pm. We have to get up pretty early coz it takes about 25 mins to get to June Mountain.
The place I’m staying at now is really nice as well. There’s two bedrooms and a bathroom downstairs and upstairs is the living area with a kitchen.
I’m rooming with an English guy named Jack. The place is a mess at the moment. It needs a bit of a clean up but no time for that at the moment.
I still haven’t got a camera. Hopefully today or tomorrow. I’ll take heaps of pictures. Of our place, the village which is beautiful, Mammoth and June. I miss having a camera……..can’t wait to get one.
We don’t have Internet in our room. It sucks. I don’t even know how I’m going to post this yet. I might have to go down to Starbucks, which has free wireless. It’s about a kilometer walk though.
Mum, I have been eating well so you don’t need to worry, lol. Mammoth has provided free dinners for all employees the last three nights. Nice food too. I think that’s the last of them however. :(
I bought some new gear the other day. I bought some new bindings and boots.
Burton Cartel bindings and Burton Boxer boots. The bindings are those new capstrap ones. I have only ridden a couple of times but I really like them. Super comfy and still really responsive. The boots are comfy too.
Okay can’t think of much more to add……..
I hope everyone’s doing well at home. Christmas soon. I hope it snows here for Christmas. That’ll be awesome!!
Speak soon. Keep the emails coming!
Paul.
