Hole in the Wall

Hi,

Yesterday seven of us (Cam, Jim, Ross, Tyson, Haz, Matty and me) went on an adventure into the backcountry of Mammoth. We started at the summit and went over the backside. We went in search of the so called “Hole in the Wall”.
To get there, it took a little bit of traversing but most of getting there consisted of beautiful powder runs.
I took lots of photos for you to see. It was gorgeous. The hole in the wall was also epic! It was a lot bigger than I thought it would be. You can tell by some of the pictures…….
After exiting the hole, we had to cross a lake. Yes a lake! It was covered with ice and snow but it was still scary knowing that underneath you there is a freezing cold lake.
After that, we ended up in a place called Tamarack. We could of waited for the bus which didn’t come for another hour and a bit but we decided to walk to Little Eagle which was around a half and hour walk.
For the rest of the day we rode Mammoth through trees trying to find the nicest freshest powder. It was great!
The only bad thing about the day was that I took a big gouge out of my board hitting a rock. I’ll have to get it fixed pretty soon. I was upset but hey, boards are meant to be ridden and I couldn’t really help it. It was a fun day and well worth it!
Last night we went out to the Clocktower because Fieldy (another Melbournian from work) is leaving to go back home. Everyone was pretty wasted. It was quiet a funny night! When we all got home about five or six of us watched “The Castle” in our room. Hahaha. Classic!
Today I’m driving to Fresno, a town about 70 miles away, to get a quote for the damage on my computer. Jack was nice enough to lend me his car for the day. J
Okay I think I’m going to get another half an hours rest and then go.

Speak soon! Send me some emails saying hello guys! Thanks.

Paul.

edit: Tried driving to Fresno today but the road I was planning to take was closed!! I would have had to do this huge big circle to get there and it would have taken all day. I was super pissed off! I think I'm going to have to go to Reno on my next day off which is almost twice as far away. Meh!!

I congratulated him on his efforts at the Olympics and also the X-games. He was really nice…….

Northstar @ Tahoe

Last week I went to Northstar @ Lake Tahoe. Here are some pictures I took.
I went with AC, a guy I’ve known since kinda, Nathan, who is a friend from school’s brother (Caggas) and Gav, a Melbournian who works up here. We left about 6pm in the evening on Tuesday. It took a few hours to get there. I can’t really remember how long. Anyway, we stayed the night at “The Block” which is a snowboarder’s hotel. It was really sweet and only cost $20 a night. Tahoe is half way between California and Nevada. There’s a street where one side on the road is in Cali and the other is in Nevada, it was very cool. We went to a casino in Nevada (there are no casinos in Cali) on Tuesday night. It was a lot of fun……I came out $5 on top which was good…..I was down a bit at one stage.
The place we stayed was in Lake Tahoe so we had to drive to Northstar in the morning on Wednesday. It took around 45 minutes. Apparently there’s like 10 or so resorts in Tahoe……I’m not exactly sure how many there are but I was amazed at how big it was. The town is huge and a lot of the resorts are meant to be big. Northstar wasn’t huge but it was very very nice and it had an awesome park.
The drive to Northstar in the morning was beautiful as you can see from the photos. The lake is gigantic, it looked like an ocean some of the time.
Theres some pictures of the village at Northstar which is undergoing a lot of construction at the moment and also of the trip home.

Howdy

Hi everyone,

Firstly, sorry I haven’t updated my blog in a long time. It’s been pretty busy and I have only been getting 2 days off a week so to make the most of it I have been snowboarding on both of my days off. This week I got 4 days off in a row and then I have to work one day, then I have 3 days off again. It’s going to be really crusiy and relaxing.
Today is Sunday and I’m about to go and do some washing. I’m going to wash my sheets and stuff for the first time. How often am I supposed to do that? I seriously have no idea…….I know Mum will probably say every week or something but how long should I let it go for? Someone email me and let me know, thanks!
Good news, I spoke to AC a couple of hours ago and he has arrived in LA and is on the way here!!! He is hiring a car and driving down here.
Hmmm……what else can I say….
Next week is President’s Day weekend or something. It’s going to be the busiest it’s being here all season. In one way it’ll be good because we won’t be bored, that’s for sure! But it’ll be a lot of work.
At the moment, we have 8 people in our house. It’s us 5, Jack, Tim, James, Cameron and I, plus Ross who’s been here for a few weeks and is staying another couple of weeks and we now have 2 new guys who are friends of Tim’s, Tyson and Haz.
Tim and I went to Reno on Friday to pick them up from the airport. It was a fun drive. We bought BB guns at Wal-Mart and haven’t stopped playing with them since. They are a lot of fun!!! No one has been hurt yet….lol.
As some of you know, my computer got broken last week. The LCD screen is smashed. I was so devastated!! I was so angry when I saw the screen, I had this crazy look in my eyes, I reckon. Anyway, I’m in the process of claiming it on insurance. Amy told me it will be covered under travel insurance which made me so happy to hear!
I got my camera back last week. That also broke on me too. It wasn’t my fault so I sent it away and I had it back within a couple of weeks. I’ll have to start taking photos again to show you all.
Yesterday, Tim, Tyson, Haz and I went to June for the day. It was a great day but I took it very easy. My ankle and back still hurt a little bit from a fall I took last week off a jump so I just watched and took photos and stuff. Still a great day boarding……
After lunch, we decided to go out of bounds and look for the “smoke shack” that was built over the summer by one of the other lifties and his mate. It’s just a place where people go to hang out and get away from things. It’s really really cool but kind of hard to find. It took us a while……
I’ll try and get some better photos of it. I have one from the inside looking out. How cool is the door? Hahahaha.

Allright peeps. I’ve gotta go and do this washing. Take care!

Paul.
